What Makes A Gift - 932 Words

Given a gift Naming one simple experience that has transformed my life, has proven to be a challenge. As I look back at my journey that has led me to this point, seems overwhelming. Where and when did it all begin? I believe it started the day my daughter was born, April 25, 2006 at 4:44pm. My daughter was going to give me a precious gift, the opportunity to recreate my childhood through her eyes. She was going to challenge everything I knew to be right, and convenience me to make changes for the better. This was not an easy journey for me, my upbringing was full of negative and judgmental dispositions, where I was not respected nor appreciated. Family communication didn t exist, my choices were to do as I was told or be reprimanded. This caused an uneasiness or anxiety in me and my abilities. I would constantly over think situations, because of my lack of confidence. Demanding things be done â€Å"my way† in order to controlled the outcome. As Tamara neared her first birthday, I was faced with the decision to close my business, and stay at home with her. I loved my daughter, but being â€Å"stuck† at home didn t offer me the same sense of fulfillment. Pretending to make Barbie dolls talk was awkward and uncomfortable to me. I purposely would start dinner or busy myself doing dishes just to avoid having to play. My little blue-eyed angel would come up to me and say â€Å"here Mommy†, holding a princess plate filled with playdoh proudly stating â€Å"I made you hot dogs.† Seriously?
